At Nuclear Essex, safety is at the heart of everything we do, and that’s especially true when it comes to water. In, our team took part in our annual water safety training with the brilliant instructors from Swim Safety Ltd, ensuring that everyone across Nuclear Wild Forest, Nuclear Races, and our wider team remains confident and prepared when working in and around water.
Whether it’s supporting thousands of participants through the famous water obstacles at Nuclear Races or running children’s outdoor sessions at Nuclear Wild Forest, our activities often involve water. That means regular, professional training is essential, not just to meet safety standards, but to ensure our team can respond quickly, calmly, and effectively in any situation.
The hands-on session covered everything from safe rescue techniques and the correct use of flotation devices to assessing risks and supporting participants who may struggle in the water. Our instructors guided the team through a series of practical exercises designed to simulate real-world scenarios. One of the highlights was watching Ricky bravely volunteer to be “rescued”.
We’re also incredibly grateful to Jane, who kindly allowed us to use her pool for the training. Having access to a controlled environment made it possible for our team to focus on learning and refining their skills without distraction.
For many people, water is one of the most exciting, and sometimes most intimidating, parts of our outdoor experiences. From wading through muddy streams during races to tackling the famous Deathslide, every element is designed to be exciting but safe. Behind the scenes, our team’s preparation is what makes that possible. Water safety training isn’t just a tick-box exercise for us, it’s part of a wider culture of continuous learning and improvement. Our goal is to make sure every team member, new or experienced, understands how to create safe, supportive environments for all visitors, whether on land, in the air, or in the water.
Training like this builds more than just skills, it builds trust. Every participant who joins us at Nuclear can feel confident that they’re in safe hands, supported by a team who take their responsibilities seriously and know how to respond when things don’t go to plan.
